After meeting your professionally trained guide at the hotel, depart on a scenic drive through the modern areas of Rhodes in a fully air – conditioned vehicle. As you pass by the Mandraki Esplanade, you will see the government buildings, Church of Annunciation built in 1925, a replica of the Old Church of the Knights of St. John and the Deer Statues at the entrance of Mandraki Port. It is believed that this was where the Colossus of Rhodes once stood. Departing Rhodes, you will travel to Rhode’s natural wonder – the Valley of the Butterflies.
The Valley of the Butterflies is a unique and one-of-a- kind natural park, where every year thousands of colorful butterflies appear from June to the end of September. The valley is home to pristine lakes, ponds and charming wooden bridges that span the Pelekanos River. Enjoy the natural beauty as you stroll on romantic and quiet paths in the valley and forest. For the more energetic and adventurous, walk up the valley to an ancient Greek monastery offering stunning views. Your next stop will be the quaint village of Embona.
Embona Village, situated at the foot of Ataviros Mountain, is the most important grape-producing village on the island of Rhodes. The small streets offer wonderful shops featuring colorful hand- woven rugs and other popular art. Wine-making fever reigns supreme in Embona and here you will have a chance to sample the local wines. After your wine tasting you can enjoy lunch in an authentic local restaurant (the cost of lunch is not included in the tour price). Departing Embona, you will make a short stop at a promontory, where you will enjoy a panoramic view of the Castle of Monolithos.
The Castle sits atop a 300 foot rock standing above a small village. This Venetian Castle was built in 1480 to protect the area from pirates and enemies. In the middle of the castle stands a white chapel dedicated to Saint Panteleimon. Your next stop will be the region of Prasonisi.
Prasonisi sits on the sea offering spectacular views of the coast and beautiful beach- es. From Prasonisi will drive to a small local cafe for a traditional Greek coffee. Departing the cafe you will drive to amazing Lindos.
Lindos is among the island’s most famous villages, and is renowned for its famous Acropolis which sits 535 feet above the village. Lindos was the most important town on the island, and has been inhabited for 5,000 years. The Acropolis is home to the ruins of a Byzantine fort and a Greek temple from centuries before. Departing Lindos you will visit a traditional ceramic workshop, you will have the chance to observe a demonstration of ceramics.
